What’s New Since March 2026
Genie 2.0 (GA) – Workspace-level reasoning and multi-step planning are now generally available. Genie can now chain SQL, Python, and AI function calls to answer complex analytical questions.
Genie Code (Public Preview) – Agentic analytics that writes and executes code on your behalf. Think of it as a junior data analyst that lives inside your notebook.
Lakebase (GA) – Operational databases built on Delta Lake. Run PostgreSQL-compatible workloads directly on your lakehouse with ACID guarantees.
Lakeflow Designer (GA) – Visual pipeline builder for batch and streaming ETL. Drag-and-drop interface that generates production-grade PySpark code.
Delta Lake Liquid Clustering (GA) – Automatic, incremental clustering that replaces manual Z-ORDER maintenance. No more vacuum scheduling nightmares.
AI Functions Expansion – ai_parse_document is now GA with support for PDF, DOCX, and image OCR. New ai_classify and ai_extract functions enter public preview.
Security Enhancements – Customer-managed keys (CMK) for encryption at rest, scoped Personal Access Tokens (PATs) for fine-grained automation, and Unity Catalog row-level security policies.
